It is the Pastor Search Committee’s desire and pleasure to give you updates of our progress. First, let me refresh your memory on steps we have followed in this process to find the man God has chosen to be our next pastor. We pray as a group, and spend time praying at home. Then, there were many resumes we received, read, studied, and prayed for God’s wisdom and guidance as He led the applicants to us and us to them. There were references to call, usually four to six per applicant, and then secondary references to call.

During the past few weeks, God led us to eliminate many applicants. He led us away from some whom we deemed to be good for our church, and He closed doors on some with whom we were excited. We traveled to hear sermons and have met with pastors face-to-face. During this time, we had the opportunity to tell them about our church and community, they had the opportunity to tell us about themselves, and ask questions regarding our church. We watch DVDs, listen to cassette tapes, and we listen and watch many on church websites. So, even if we are not traveling, it does not mean we are not working. We have lots of homework to do during the week!

Where are we now that many of the applicants have been eliminated? God has not yet shown us the man He has selected as pastor for Winterville First Baptist Church. Therefore, we are continuing to meet, to pray, and to study the resumes’ and communicate with those whom we are still interested.

We realize this process has been lengthy, and we ask for your prayers and patience as we continue the search. We thank you for all the prayers that have already been lifted up for us. We were especially touched by the prayers for us during the service on January 24. We thank Brother Eric for that prayer time.

At this point, the committee is in complete unity about those whom we are presently considering, and we pray God will continue to speak to us clearly about these particular people. When God leads us to our next pastor, the committee will be in unanimity to that one person. Be assured we are not dragging our feet and not doing our job. We are anxious, too, but we realize this has to be done in God’s time, and our confidence and faith are in Him.
